Flamethrowers

Flamethrowers. Real ones.

The image is of a German "Brennkommando" part of a specialty burning detachment of the German Army - destroying Warsaw during the "Planned Destruction" of the city.

I mean - when you pickup one in a video game, its great and all - but its actually a real weapon used in real-life situations... Sort of. There's lots of evidence of flamethrower-weilding footsoldiers in WWII - but its the Armoured vehicle-mounted throwers which REALLY own.

The British and Canadians fielded "The Wasp" in 1944, paving the way for the eventual "The Badger" and the "Oke", but the most famous flame tank was the "Churchill Crocodile" (Pictured).

Look the others up on Google Images.

Stephen Root rules

Stephen Root is one of my favourite comedic character actors. He's a champ. This is arguably his most famous performance.

Fucken Milton from Office Space. This movie is one of the most underrated - or deserving of cult status or whatever - of all time. Milton is the most memorable character in the whole thing, and the one who ultimately wins out. Milton rules. If you haven't seen this movie GO AND SEE IT RIGHT NOW. Its awesome.

Also this:

Bill Dauterive. Yeah yeah, another "I love King of the Hill" post, but seriously - some of the most clever shit that's ever happened on TV, let alone on FOX. More consistent than all of the "Big Players" in the TV Family-Animation game.

Bill is Hank's pathetic best friend, and the lonely bachelor of the group you famously see standing in the alley drinking beer. He's a military man, an Army Barber actually - and is known for his willingness to go along with anything. He's also Cajun. The episode where he joins a Hippie commune is just gold.

Wojtek: The greatest animal ever!

Wojtek could be the greatest animal who ever lived, and certainly the greatest bear.

I know this is a big call to make, but wait until you hear his story; Wojtek was a Polish bear, much like the one in the picture. What makes him so different? Wojtek was drafted as a soldier in the Polish Army. Fuck yes!

He was adopted by the Polish army in 1942, and was actually listed among the soldiers of the 22nd Artillery Supply Company of the Polish II Corps. He helped move ammunition during pivotal battles in WWII!

Wikipedia lists some pretty amazing facts about Woytek. For example, he was often rewarded with beer, which was his favourite drink. Fuck yes. Also, the name "Wojtek" or "Wojciech" is derived from two words: "woj" (warrior); and "ciech", enjoyment. Thus the name has two meanings: "he who enjoys war" or "smiling warrior". FUCK YES!

But nothing could beat the title of his Wiki page: "Wojtek (soldier bear)"

Meatloaf

Oh my god, Meatloaf kicks some serious ass.

who else has THIS at the top of their Wikipedia page? you?

"This article is about the singer. For the prepared food, see meatloaf."

Anyways, he's also a massive badass for trying to keep himself out of the army by gaining alot of weight really quickly (he put on 31kg in 4 weeks). It didn't work. He ended up avoiding being drafted by being colourblind.

A few years later he released this:

What a cool guy. "Bat Out Of Hell" still sells 200,000 copies annually. Do you sell 200,000 copies of anything annually? Probably not.
